ANWAR ROBINSON, MSEd. is presently living the best of both worlds with an impressive range of academic achievements dedicated to Public and Independent School Education Leadership, and equally receiving standing ovations as an electrifying International Performing Artist, front singer and multi-instrumentalist of a touring orchestra. Anwar is a Summa Cum Laude graduate and holds a Master of Science in Education with Distinction (Hofstra University), Bachelor of Arts in Music Education & Voice Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College | Rider University, Advanced Educational Leadership Certificate, School District Leader & School Building Leader Certifications (NYS), and steps away from completing his Doctoral Degree. While the thunderous applause of Anwar's principal role of Tom Collins in the touring company of the Broadway Musical RENT is still fresh in our minds, Anwar's soaring vocal range and masterful fusion of Jazz, Soul, and Gospel will always be notably recognized for achieving a Top Finalist position on the world renowned televised competition AMERICAN IDOL. It's no coincidence that Anwar's evolution, preparedness and fate has culminated in his return to the Musical Theatre Stage. Anwar most recently starred in the role of Jesus in a special symphonic concert performance of Jesus Christ Superstar, featuring a 35-piece orchestra at the Count Basie Theater. Anwar's performance in this iconic role has been described as "an exhilarating master class experience that blew the audience away and brought them to their feet!" also "anointed and perfectly cast — the bar has been raised". Anwar's amazing career has been featured in the New York Times and Playbill. Anwar has appeared on several television programs and major news networks in which he appeared as both an artist/performer and also guest commentator to raise awareness and funding for Music Education and Theatre Arts programs in underserved schools and communities.
Anwar's off-stage passion and career résumé include his tenure as Director of Programs at Education Through Music, four years as an Educator and Director of Creative Arts at The IDEAL School of Manhattan, Artistic Music Director at The United Palace of Spiritual Arts, Inc. and also has an additional decade of teaching and Director of Performing Arts Education positions in Public, Charter and Independent Schools. Anwar has fundraised and forged working relationships with organizations as Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Harlem School of Arts, Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, and National Dance Institute. Anwar has been an inspirational speaker, musician, and guest vocalist at many renowned faith-based institutions including The Marble Collegiate Church, Abyssinian Baptist Church, and Far Rockaway Community Church of the Nazarene. In honor and continuation of Black History, Anwar worked with the award winning theater producer, visionary and playwright Ms. Vy Higginsen (Mama I Want To Sing) and served as the Music Director for her latest creation "Harlem Sings Jazz," a tribute to our legends and pioneering artists of Jazz — Presented by Mama Foundation for the Arts. Anwar was once a member of a short-lived R&B group that signed with Arista Records founder and music industry legend Clive Davis. Anwar then built the groundwork to transition into a successful independent solo recording artist, wrote and released the contemporary gospel song titled "CHOSEN". Anwar was also cast in Godspell the musical, and also the workshop of E. Lynn Harris' Invisible Life alongside mentors Valerie Simpson and Nick Ashford. Anwar Robinson has worked with countless Pop, R&B and Broadway artists including Patti Labelle, Carole Bayer Sager, Kenny Babyface Edmonds, Chita Rivera, Lillias White, The Clark Sisters, Donnie McClurkin, Kelly Price, Peggi Blu, Carrie Underwood, and more.
